Obchody Tysiąclecia Państwa Polskiego we Włocławku w 1966 r.

Kamil Błaszczyk

Abstrakt

In 1966 the communist authorities of PRL (People’s Republic of Poland) organized a lot of events to celebrate one thousand years of existence of the Polish State. The main aim of the government was to deepen the process of secularization of the Polish society. In Włocławek the most important events took place in April and May. On 14th May the representatives of the Central Committee of PZPR (Polish United Workers’ Party) came to the city to celebrate the memory of Julian Marchlewski – one of the leader of Polish communist movement, who was born in Włocławek in 1866. There were also great celebrations on 1st May (Labor Day) and on 22nd July (the celebration of the beginning of the period of communist rule in Poland – on 22nd July 1944 the Polish Committee of National Liberation published it’s manifesto). The efforts of the local authorities of PZPR did not get the expected results – the religion had still a profound influence on the citizens. In Włocławek thousandsof people took part in the ceremony organized by the Catholic Church to commemorate the 1000th anniversary of the Baptism of Poland.
