The article entitled Kampania propagandowa w grudniu 1970 roku w świetle prasy region bydgoskiego (‘The propagandistic campaign in December 1970 in the light of the press in the region of Bydgoszcz’ / ‘Nowości’, ‘Ilustrowany Kurier Polski’, ‘Gazeta Pomorska’) presents the mechanisms which were implemented at the time of the December revolt in 1970. In response to the events in Gdańsk and Szczecin, the shortest in the history of PRL propagandistic campaign broke out in the country. At the local level it started at Polish Seaside on December 15th. This text presents the language used by the press then (its style, vividness, emotionality and brutality). Therefore, the author mainly makes use of the quotes coming from regional newspapers. In its classic version the December communist propaganda continued till the time Edward Gierek was elected to the position of the first secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party (KC PZPR). This article develops this issue and also illustrates the events that took place in January and February of 1971. It concentrates mainly on Edward Gierek’s meeting with shipbuilders, VIII Plenum of the Central Committee of the Communist Party (KC PZPR), and the changes in the Polish government. It covers the events till 15 February 1971, when the communist government cancelled the price increase introduced on 13th December 1970.
