Polish-Jewish Relations in the Wieluń District in the Second Polish Republic

Abstract

The issue of Polish-Jewish relations in the Wieluń district in the Second Polish Republic has not been explored by many researchers. Due to the complexity of the problem, it is difficult to define these relations unequivocally. They were shaped by the socio-economic situation of the day, and were related to trade, social and religious events, and politics. Regardless of the examples of both friendly coexistence and incidental criminal events, in the discussed period, the interwined history of the Polish and Jewish populations influenced the dynamic social development of these territories in the Polish independent state. The Jews, who were organized into seven religious communities, disappeared from the region as a result of the Second World War.
