Abstract

After the establishment of the Czechoslovak Republic and regaining the independence by Poland, the Jewish community became a full member of local community both in Presov and Nowy Sacz, operating on the fields of religion, politics and culture, it also draws attention at popularizing physical education and sport by creating many sports clubs. The most popular organizations of this kind, both in Presov and Nowy Sacz, were Makkabi associations with dynamically developing sports sections such as football, swimming, table tennis and chess. These organizations took part in city and intercity games, also with non-Jewish clubs. The paper describes activity of Makkabi organization in Presov and Makkabi Jewish Sports Club in Nowy Sacz in the interwar period.
