The image of the Jew in „Rycerz Niepokalanej”, 1922-1939

Anna Juszczak

Abstract

In the interwar period, the Catholic Church held a high position among the opinion -forming community. It was possible due to the fact that the Church had the best developed publishing activities. „Rycerz Niepokalanej” [The Knight of the Immaculate] published monthly since 1922, was characterized by a high level of anti-Semitism content contained therein. The magazine portrayed a Jew as a communist, Bolshevik, mason – of course, in a negative light. The Jewish religion was wrong and without any basis, allowing all depravities. Jewish minority was also portrayed as the dregs of society carrying a deadly threat, pursuing a premeditated plan of revenge against the Christian world.
