The number of the Jewish population of cities, towns and villages of the Lublin voivodeship in ‘Wiadomość Statystyczna’ from 1819

Paweł Sygowski

Abstract

The statistical data concerning the Jewish population in Poland are crucial element in the research of their history in the area. The years 1800-1825 are the time when kehilah (e.g. Kalinowszczyzna, Nowy Kazimierz, Zbyczyn, Włostowo) in the territory of the Lublin voivodeship were disappearing as the result of demographic movements and the change of administrative regulations. In the same time the new communities were coming into existence (among others in Puławy, Wąwolica, Kamionka, Michów). The material of 1819, which has been unpublished so far, being the property of the Lublin State Archive, is a crucial supplement of current knowledge of demographic dynamics of the Jewish community in the Lublin region of that time.
