Financial security of the country against the background of the current socio-geopolitical situation on the example of Poland and Germany in the years 2017 – 2022

Abstract

The aim of the study is to assess the impact of the socio-geopolitical situation on a country’s financial security using the example of Poland and Germany for the period 2017 – 2022. The assessment is based on an analysis of indicators relating to public debt, interest rate, GDP, inflation, current account deficit, debt service costs, as well as the ratings of Moody’s Investor Service, Standard & Poor’s (S&P) and Fitch Ratings. The pandemic and subsequent armed conflict in Ukraine have become major external sources of social risk to both the economic situation of many countries and the stability of their financial systems. The downgrading of the analysed indicators in the case of Poland and Germany, as well as the response of both countries to the existing risks, varied, largely determined by the degree of development of the economies and their competitiveness, the efficiency of public institutions, as well as the links within the European Union.
