3. Internal propaganda of the Russian Federation in the context of the war in Ukraine. Outline of the problematic

Abstract

The Russian invasion of Ukraine was preceded by a sophisticated propaganda campaign. The illusion of a hostile West or a neo-Nazi Ukraine was created by the Kremlin before too long for military action. This led to a situation where the decisive majority of Russian citizens, some 75%, accepted an unjustified attack on a neighbouring sovereign state. The Kremlin propaganda machine operates effectively in the Russian information space, using a wide range of techniques and instruments of influence, etc. "black and white thinking", demonisation, newspeak, false dilemma, "argument ad personam", "tu quoque", third-person technique, "argumentum ad verecundiam", "rotten herring" technique and the big lie. These methods are systematically modified and supplemented. When reflecting on the effectiveness of this information campaign, it is impossible to avoid the fact that the Russian authorities use numerous propaganda techniques, etc. dehumanisation, newspeak, argumentum ad personam, appeal to a third party, etc. In addition to this, a number of strategies have been developed by the Kremlin to quickly and effectively get the 'right' information to a particular social group. The information strategies developed by the Russian authorities and services take into account the structure of Russian society, tailoring different arguments and facts for each group or adjusting them taking into account group characteristics. Disregarding or thinking of Russian propaganda as niche or trivial is a big mistake that can lead to an inappropriate response to the challenges it poses. Thus, Russian propaganda, which is seemingly considered trivial and truistic, has posed serious challenges to the whole world, which require a multidimensional and systematic approach.
