WAR DISINFORMATION – ANALYSIS OF MANIPULATION METHODS OCCURRED IN FAKE NEWS OCCURRING IN 100 CASES OF WAR IN UKRAINE IN 2022

Abstract

The article addresses the issue of wartime disinformation by analyzing ma- nipulative techniques used in fake news identified on the Facebook.com plat- form. Employing a qualitative research method known as content analysis, 188 examples of fake news disseminated during the first 100 days of Russia’s aggres- sion against Ukraine were classified. Based on this analysis, the most prevalent manipulation techniques were identified as: deliberate misinformation as a form of wartime propaganda and the manipulation of genuine images and data. The latter phenomenon represents a shift in the focus of disinformation efforts, as real data, photographs, or videos are used for false interpretations of events and phenomena. Thus, manipulation no longer involves fabricated facts, as was pre- viously the case, but rather false interpretations of authentic information. Such practices are significantly more challenging to refute, posing a challenge in the fight against disinformation.
