Social Security’s Inclusion on Political Parties’ Agendas During the 2023 Parliamentary Elections

Abstract

In the face of growing tensions and conflicts, it is necessary to take coordinated action aimed at maintaining a stable level of security for citizens, implemented in a multidimensional manner – in the political, economic, and social spheres, with particular emphasis on social security. The key function of social security is to mitigate social risks that may lead to the loss of an individual’s ability to independently support themselves and their family at a decent standard of living. The aim of this article is to analyze how the concept of social security was presented in the electoral programs of the political parties comprising the 10th term of the Sejm of the Republic of Poland. To this end, the following research question was formulated: How did the political parties represented in the 10th-term Sejm of the Republic of Poland address issues related to social security in their 2023 electoral platforms? The initial hypothesis assumes that while the inclusion of social security varied across the 2023 electoral programs, in most cases it was oriented toward reducing social risks and modernizing existing support mechanisms. The methodology applied in this article includes qualitative content analysis as well as a supplementary survey conducted on a random sample of 205 respondents. The article discusses the concepts presented by the following political parties: Prawo i Sprawiedliwość, Koalicja Obywatelska, Polskie Stronnictwo Ludowe, Polska 2025 Szymona Hołowni, Nowa Lewica oraz Konfederacja.
