Selected aspects of the Catholic social teaching in the economic thought of the Polish Christian Democrats in the interwar period (1918-1939)

Abstract

The aim of the article is to present the main arguments appearing in the economic thought of the Polish Christian Democrats, represented by the Christian Democracy and its supporters, in the interwar period. After the Great Depression of 1929 one may observe a shift in the paradigm, a significant feature of which was the growing interest of representatives of the liberals and Catholic social teaching in a critical assessment of the growing statism. We present the activity of prof. Leopold Caro, the main promoter of the idea of solidarism. Then we explain the low support for Catholic social teaching in Poland in the interwar period.
