Attempts at gaining autonomy by Upper Lusatia in the 20th century on the basis of Polish scientific literature

Abstract

In the first half of the 20th century, in Upper Lusatia, a certain part of the local Sorbian population sought autonomy, and even independence. The main argument for this postulate was the Slavic origin of the local population. The greatest chance to implement this project was after the Second World War. Stalin’s decision, however, turned out to be different. As a result, the strip from Zgorzelec
to Lubań is today within the borders of the Polish state.
