Abstrakt

The article shows the person of the distinguished Jesuit patrologist Jan Maria Szymusiak (1920-1987). At the beginning, his way to the Jesuit order is presented. Further, the stages of religious and scientific education are described and afterwards, the time after leaving the order. The position he achieves in the world of science is discussed. Later in this article the characteristics of his personality, which has been included in the documentation of the communist security apparatus, is drawn. Jan Maria Szymusiak became well-known because of the great number of denunciations related to him. They are thoroughly described. He also had contact with the Ministry of Interior officer while trying to obtain a passport. Those encounters left him unscathed. The security apparatus documents confirm his exceptional spirit among the Jesuit order. Conclusions have been drawn in the article. Jan Maria Szymusiak was not able to function in the Polish phenomenon of real socialism. After his return to France he abandoned the religious state.
