Conservative banner in exile? A contribution to the collective portrait of selected émigré socio-political circles associating Polish conservatives after World War II

Abstract

The aim of this article is to outline the initial characteristics of selected figures and circles of the political life of the post-independence emigration after World War II who identify themselves with conservative thought in its broadest sense. Due to the lack of proper institutionalisation and political practice before 1939, Polish conservatives did not create in exile a common entity gathering pre-war activists of this ideological trend. The many times individualised form of activity, the reliance mainly on social relations and the lack of definition of own position through the prism of conservative thought make it difficult to grasp the framework of the collective portrait of Polish conservatives after World War II. This paper aims to delineate the main fields of interpretation of the phenomenon in question, signalling only a selection of issues.
