BODY-CENTRIC ANTHROPOLOGICAL DRAMA. THE CULT OF THE BODY IN CONTEMPORARY CULTURE

Abstract

The article presents selected topics regarding the "body-centricity" of contemporary culture, pointing to the body-centric anthropological drama. Starting from a broad understanding of culture and popular culture-forming factors, including, above all, new mass media, we move on to psychological concepts regarding the image of "self" (including C. Rogers, T. Higgins) and a description of selected phenomena related to the concentration of contemporary man on the corporeal sphere. We present arguments that the anthropological drama of modern man is based on quasi-platonism, as the model of man postulated by popular culture is de facto unattainable for any human being.
