The Influence of Media on the Value System of Young People on the Example of the Podkarpackie Voivodeship

Abstract

The beginning of the 21st century is an intensive development of technology, including social media, which are not only a place for young people to be active, but also for expressing themselves and interpreting various content. Social media are already an integral part of the functioning of young generation and have a huge impact on its personal, social and cultural spheres. Young people create their image in the media and make it dependent on the approval of other users. They also draw some patterns (sometimes unattainable) from those media, to which they very often aspire. What is more, social media provide entertainment, are used to maintain interpersonal contacts, as well as allow some of us to earn money. Facebook, Instagram or TikTok have an impact not only on the information itself or its reception, but simply change the world. They create a completely new culture and reality in which modern man lives. This article discusses the issues of new media, as well as characterizes the contemporary generation of youth. The study presents the characteristics of values with particular emphasis on sociological approach of value. It also describes their importance in everyday life of young people and attempts to answer the question of how contemporary media affect the formation of the fair values hierarchy among youth from the Podkarpackie Voivodeship. This study is concluded with a summary.
