Synonymicity of the Concept Of National Security im the Light of the Nation’s Spirit
Abstract
The article presents a multidimensional approach to national security, emphasizing its close connection with the spiritual foundations of the nation. The author argues that security cannot be reduced to military, technological, or institutional aspects; rather, it also encompasses values, identity, culture, and religion, which shape the resilience of the national community. The “spirit of the nation” – understood as a set of moral, cultural, and religious bonds – is identified as a key factor integrating socjety and enabling collective mobilization in times of threat. Historical analysis (Israel, Polish history, national uprisings, Westerplatte, periods of foreign domination and communism) demonstrates that spiritual strength has been essential for the nation’s survival. The article draws on the thought of Norwid, Dmowski, Wyszyński, John Paul II, and Christian tradition, highlighting their role in shaping civic responsibility and commitment to the common good. It also discusses the importance of peace, social trust, justice, national sovereignty, and the balance between citizens’ freedom and state authority. The study concludes that national security is inseparable from the spiritual potential of the community, which constitutes its deepest source of strength, resilience, and capacity to overcome crises.
