    Directions of activity of the Polish Police in the area of terrorist threats

    Abstract

    The leading entity in the field of recognizing terrorist threats in Poland is the Internal Security Agency. However, the Police, having at its disposal personal resources (about one hundred thousand officers) and organizational resources, as well as experience in protecting public safety, as well as recognizing and prosecuting crimes, can be an important component in the system of recognizing threats from those who may commit terrorist acts. Despite the fact that, in principle, the activities of the police in the field related to terrorism are focused on the application of solutions related to counter-terrorism, this text also indicates activities from the area of counter-terrorism in the broadest sense. The purpose of this article is to present changes in defining the role of the Polish Police in counter-terrorism activities in terms of counter-terrorism and counter-terrorism. In addition, the article shows the basic formal and legal framework constituting the nature of this formation in combating terrorist threats. In doing so, an analysis of documents was used, along with a comparison of legal solutions concerning the specifics of the Polish Police's activities in the area of counterterrorism.
