The problem of national minorities’ identity in relations to the contemporary political philosophy

Abstract

Identity is an important political category which refers both to individuals and nations. In this field national minorities’ identity is a crucial problem which is influenced by general trends present in the contemporary culture. In this article the author tries to analyse philosophical and cultural basis of minorities’ identities in reference to contemporary processes crucial to the philosophy of politics. The article touches upon such problems as: cultural identity vs. globalisation, the phenomenon of politicizing the identity in relation to national remembrance, the identity of the ‘Other’, and multiculturalism.
