This article presents the initial years of functioning of the Józef Ignacy Kraszewski Museum in Romanów. The text is structured into four main parts. The first section discusses the alterations made to the manor house by successive owners following three separate fires. The second part focuses on the perspectives of those who opposed the museum’s establishment in Romanów, alongside events connected with the writer that occurred in Biała Podlaska immediately prior to the museum’s opening. The third section addresses the acquisition of the museum’s collection and the individuals invited to and attending the opening ceremony. The final section outlines the challenges encountered by the institution’s management during its early years. The article’s value is significantly enhanced by its reliance on manuscript and typescript materials authored by Antoni Trepiński.
