Forms of Cooperation with the Family as an Expression of the Nursery’s Relationship with the Family Microsystem as Assessed by Representatives of Lublin Nurseries

Abstract

In Bronfenbrenner’s ecological systems theory, the relationship between microsystems implies the achievement of common goals and joint action between an institution and the family. This study aimed to illustrate the relationship between nurseries and children’s families through the lens of cooperation forms, based on ecological theory. Eight categorised, explicit interviews were conducted with representatives of nurseries in Lublin. The research indicates that the most valued and effective forms of cooperation are daily exchanges of information about the child’s behaviour and parents’ participation in the child’s adaptation to the institution. Forms of cooperation reflecting an interpersonal relationship (parent-caregiver-child) were rated as more important than group-oriented ones (family-nursery-group of children). The variety of cooperation forms offered by nurseries signifies their openness to the family, with cooperation goals focusing not only on exchanging current information but also on building bonds and community among children, parents, and staff.
