Jews in Miedzyrzec Podlaski town council in the interwar period

Mateusz Borysiuk

Abstract

Jews in Miedzyrzec Podlaski during the Second Polish Republic constituted more than three-quarters of the total number of city residents. Such a large percentage had to affect local government activities of local Jews. This article aims at describing the activity of Jews in Miedzyrzec City Council in the interwar period. The following sections present the activity of Jews in subsequent Council cadences. Jewish activities were particularly important during the third term of the Council where they constituted the majority of its general composition. It allowed them to vote on initiatives that had not been able to function by that time. The findings made in this article supplement the current state of research on the Jewish community of Miedzyrzec Podlaski.
