The Political Line of the Newspaper Przełom of the Left Poale Zion in the Years 1946-1949

Abstract

The Left Poale Zion was an extremely radical left-wing fraction of Zionism. Its members were in favor of an alliance with the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics and supported the changes taking place in post-war Poland. The activists of the group also postulated the emergence of one, binational state in Palestine and were respectful of the achievements of the Yiddish culture. In post-war Poland, Jewish parties printed newspapers in three languages: Polish, Hebrew and Yiddish. The Przełom newspaper was published in Warsaw from 1946 to 1949. On average, a newspaper issue had between 12 and 16 pages. Among the contributors were Adolf Berman, Henryk Wasser, and Leopold Weber, to name but a few.
