THE CONCEPT OF „PURGATORY ON EARTH” ST. CATHERINE OF GENOA IN THE PERSPECTIVE OF TRANSHUMANISM CHALLENGES

Abstract

The article compare two viwes on human improvement. It brings closer the transhumanist enhancement and the vision of „Purgatory on Earth” of St. Catherine of Genoa. Its aim is an attempt to show that both positions strive to find effective methods to improve the imperfections of human nature that they diagnose. The material used to present these two proposals of overcoming human weaknesses have become among others in the case of transhumanism, articles from peer-reviewed scientific journals while in the case of St. Catherine, her „Treatise on Purgatory” and articles from peer-reviewed scientific journals. The result of the work is a synthetic description of two very different ways to overcome human weakness, which, generally speaking, emanates from the necessity of death. The text ends with a reflection on the possibility of cooperation between representatives of two different anthropologies presented in a joint search for the truth about man and his earthly existence.
