PREJUDICE AND STEREOTYPES AS TOOLS OF MANIPULATION IN EUROPEAN MEDIA

Abstract
Stereotypes presented and created by the media may concern, inter alia, sex - a wo- man and a man are assigned different social roles, beyond which the exit raises criticism in people who conform to certain stereotypes. The situation is similar, for example, in the case of people who we call atheists – who believe in nothing. The prejudices that are widespread in all societies are also a serious problem. Prejudice and discrimina- tion are consistently reinforced by other people in the environment, as well as by the mass media or public statements by journalists. European media play an important role in shaping stereotypes and prejudices in relations between nations. It was the media that took over the transmission of images of the world and people. Stereotypes and prejudices also exist in the media world of politics. Referring to the reality of the media, it should be stated that the behavior of politicians who appear on television or radio contributes to the formation of new stereotypes, false beliefs and prejudices. Therefore, operating with all kinds of prejudices and stereotypes, and above all their creation in the European media, is a tool that can lead to disintegration of European
society and to racial, religious and national hatred.
