Limiting religious freedom in the pandemic era on selected examples

Abstract

This article analyzes the restrictions on religious worship that have been set by the authorities of various European countries in connection with the spread of the COVID-19 epidemic. Respect for religious freedom is an extremely important element
of public life, and disregarding this freedom has negative consequences not only for discriminated citizens, but also for the entire state. Above all, it carries the risk of the occurrence and escalation of hatred and violence. It should be emphasized unequivocally that the meaning of legal regulations is invariably not to privilege any religion, but to create conditions for the normal coexistence of various groups of believers and non-believers.
