It was a mere coincidence that a “piece of iron scrap” found by a lake near Horodło was associated with the tragic events of the 1939 defensive war, as related by a local resident. Those events took place near her family home in the village of Poraj. Marian Głowacz’s mother, as a teenage girl, remembered the sight of the Polish soldiers destroying their weapons. The literature available on the Internet has made it possible to discover a hitherto unknown episode in the history of the Volhynian Artillery Reserve Cadet School, which took place on the left bank of the Bug River.
