Sažetak

The aim of the study is to show the history of the Jewish community in Silesia from the early Middle Ages through particular centuries to total extermination (Holocaust, Szoah) during the Second World War. In the Middle Ages, Jews were involved primarily in trade and crafts. They obtained privileges from princes, but they were often persecuted by townspeople and church authorities. Diminished their importance in Silesia under the rule of Habsburg, and after passing almost the whole of Silesia to Prussia, contributed to flourish and dominate the industry in the liberal professions. From 1933, they underwent a gehenna in the Third Reich, and after 1939 they were systematically killed in German death camps erected in the occupied Polish territories.
