Abstract

Rev. Bogusław Bijak (1930–2011) – ordained in 1956 priest of Warsaw Archdiocese, meritorious for the development of pastoral ministry in Poland. He was promoted Honorary Prelate of His Holiness and was a Provost of Wilanów Chapter that he founded. For his pastoral and social activity for the democratic changes in Poland and for rural changes Rev. Bijak received the Order of Primate Ecclesiae Populoque servitium praestanti and the Order of Polonia Restituta. For several years, he headed the Priesthood Department of the Warsaw Metropolitan Curia. In the 1970s and 1980s, Rev. Bijak was a publisher of books on religion and patriotism, and was the architect of the retreat centre in Magdalenka. As a parish priest of St. Ann Church in Wilanów and a head of the Wilanów Deanery he restored the church and the parish buildings. Rev. Bijak was an architect of the Primate of Poland House and the Bell Tower of the Third Millennium in Wilanów. He signifi cantly contributed to the idea of the construction of the Temple of Divine Providence. The Polish rural areas, in general, were his particular scope of interest. Rev. Bijak was Poland’s priest for farmers and an organizer of Jasna Góra Harvest Festivals as well as a church assistant of people’s movement. He served as chaplain for Peasants’ Battalions and Solidarity of Individual Farmers. For all his priest life he would devote himself to work among young people. Rev. Bijak was an academic priest and patronized the Light–Life Movement communities which he created in cooperation with Rev. Franciszek Blachnicki and Rev. Wojciech Danielski. His biography provides proof for a significant influence on the Church life and Poland from the position of a clergyman and complete devotion to God, Church and Fatherland.
