Writer’s Secrets

Aleksandra Drozd

Antoni Ferdynand Ossendowski and Poland

Abstract

Scientist and imposter, writer and secret emissary, traveller and chemist, hunter and social activist... Antoni Ferdynand Ossendowski – one of the most famous and mysterious interwar Polish writers – was all of these and more. His biography is composed of facts, gossips, rumours and a legend. Ossendowski is often associated with espionage operations, antipathy to Bolshevism, and contacts with important politicians. He is also the author of historical books and novels for young people, a bard of Polish landscapes and national heroes. Ossendowski was definitely an enigmatic figure, yet at the same time he was a popular ambassador of Poland in the world.
