Pola Negri and Her Love for What is Polish

Abstract

Pola Negri, the great Polish actress of silent cinema known all over the world, never forgot about her homeland. Wherever she lived, played and performed, she remembered and emphasised where she came from. She did not hide her attachment to faith. Thanks to her efforts and donations, she contributed to the creation of the Polish parish and church in Los Angeles. Living in France, she organised harvest festivals to which she invited amateur theatre groups from Poland. She created a small Polish museum in her residence near Paris. During masses, Polish religious songs were sung in the palace chapel. Polish staff worked at the actress's house. Polish dishes were served there. Pola Negri was keenly interested in what was happening in her homeland. She helped Poles coming to the United States (US) after 1981. She spoke fluent Polish until the end of her life.
