    ‘The John Paul II Memorial House’ Biographical Museum in Kraczkowa and Its Pastoral and Educational Role

    Abstract

    ‘The John Paul II Memorial House’ Biographical Museum in Kraczkowa was established in 2019. It is a parish biographical museum dedicated to Pope John Paul II. It is unique because it is located next to a rural parish. It basically consists of the collection made by Fr. Pastor Mieczysław Bizior thanks to the kindness of the papal secretary, Archbishop Mieczysław Mokrzycki. The museum is not the only element commemorating the Polish pope in the town. The idea of establishing the institution was born in response to a strong papal cult in the local parish St. Nicholas Church. The temple houses numerous artefacts – papal relics, such as the cross from Stefkowa, held by John Paul II during the Way of the Cross in 2005, liturgical vessels and the clergy’s attire. Thanks to the collected artefacts related to the saint patron, ‘The John Paul II Memorial House’ Biographical Museum in Kraczkowa is an element of the pastoral influence that the local parish exerts on the faithful. In addition to its religious role, the facility is also the cultural centre of the town. In the building, next to the exhibition halls, there are rooms for parish groups and the ‘Nicolaus’ choir and orchestra, which add splendour to celebrations at the local church, among others. The museum organises museum lessons and catecheses, as well as occasional exhibitions. Thanks to the cooperation with the local John Paul II Primary School, the museum is a place where children and young people are taught religious and patriotic values.
