Wincenty Kadłubek

A Medieval Bishop and Monk in Memory of His Contemporaries

Abstract

This article presents the figure of Wincenty Kadłubek (1150-1223) as a medieval bishop and monk who remains in the memory of his contemporaries. He was a teacher, bishop and religious, and his work began to be recognized as both Catholic and national pedagogy. The Polish Chronicle presents the history of our nation, which is to give a sense of community, teach future generations to love and be faithful to their homeland, and to undertake all actions to defend it. On August 30, 1964, Cardinal Wyszyński recognized Wincenty as an educator of the nation. In addition, his figure plays a huge role in the activities of the Cistercian Order in Jędrzejów. This is evidenced by the fact that the monastery received the title of the Diocesan Sanctuary of Blessed Wincenty Kadłubek. The monks undertake all initiatives, such as celebrating an indulgence, organizing lectures, conferences, etc., to spread his cult, which has not lost its vitality for a long time.
