Helen Parkhurst

On the Way to the Dalton Plan

Abstract

This article presents the person of Helen Parkhurst - the author of the Dalton Plan. The events described here cover the period from her early childhood, which significantly influenced the final shape of Dalton Plan, to 1920, when it was implemented in Dalton School in the United States. In this article I present the process of creating this innovative plan of teaching that arose during the remarkable life of a dedicated and ambitious, yet extremely modest, reformer of world of education.
