Maria Góralówna: From Medicine to Special Education

Abstract

This article deals with the activity of Associate Professor Maria Góralówna in the fields of medicine and special education. Her involvement in the rehabilitation of children and adolescents with hearing impairment is described. The figure of Maria Góralówna is shown as extremely important in one of the centres dealing with diagnostics, treatment and rehabilitation. She also played an important role in the implementation of cochlear implants in Poland. This article has been divided into the following parts: personal and professional life, professional views of Maria Góralówna, activities for children and families, and memories of parents and co-workers, all of which show what kind of person she was. “The mother of mothers of deaf children’ has left behind texts containing still valid premises for working with children with hearing impairment.
