Father Joseph Wresinski: The Chaplain of the Homeless, Poor and Socially Excluded (1917–1988)

Abstract

This article attempts to present the person and work of Father Joseph Wresinski (1917–1988), who contributed to the formulation of the problem of social exclusion. The article attempts to present both Father Joseph Wresinski’s life and his activities for the homeless and socially excluded. Father Joseph Wresinski was the son of a Polish emigrant. As a child, he experienced extreme poverty and social exclusion. He was ordained a priest in 1946. In 1956, he began his pastoral service at the camp for homeless families in Noisy-le-Grand. He was one of the first defenders of human rights.
