Manuscript Memoirs from the Collection of the National Library of Poland as a Source for Research on Childhood in the Kingdom of Poland at the Turn of the 19th and 20th Centuries

The subject of this text are memories from childhood at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries related to the area of the Kingdom of Poland. The aim of the research is to indicate which aspects of childhood appear in the narratives of authors who come from various social groups. These findings can be used by researchers to undertake in-depth research into the specificity of childhood from the indicated period, taking into consideration the most recent theoretical and methodological orientation. The analysis covers the previously unpublished memoirs, kept in the collection of manuscripts of the National Library of Poland. The criterion for the selection of source material was the author's date of birth (from the close of 1880s to the beginning of the 20th century, so that the period of childhood fell on the last years of the Partitions of Poland) and the territory of the Kingdom of Poland as the place where the given memoirist spent their childhood years. After a detailed analysis of several dozen memoirs which meet the above criteria, 30 manuscripts were selected, which can be an illuminating source for research on childhood and upbringing of a child in the family in the last 40 years of the functioning of the Kingdom of Poland.
