Valerius of Bierzo, the Saint of Crises

Abstract

The hermit Valerius of Bierzo is an outstanding representant of monastic life in Visigothic Spain, an author of ascetical and biographical writings. He considered his life to be a streak of miseries, demonic assaults and conflicts with humans. Nevertheless any crisis he went through used to become for him an occasion for deepening his spiritual life and strengthening his relationship with God.
