Blessed Fr. Józef Czempiel, educator, educator, social activist

Abstract

Each of us can fulfill the role of a pedagogue, tutor, social worker, regardless of the activity we perform. Very often this role is filled by one and the same person. In the presented case, it is blessed Fr. Józef Czempiel, an extraordinary pedagogue, educator, social worker who developed the abstinence movement in Upper Silesia while performing pastoral ministry. He attached great importance to the educational and cultural activities of families, as well as social assistance to dependent and unemployed families. Involved in the fight for Polish identity in Upper Silesia, persecuted during World War II, he died a martyr's death in the Dachau concentration camp in May 1942. On June 13, 1999 in Warsaw, Pope Jan Paul II blessed 108 clergy martyrs, including Fr. Józef Czempiel.
