Zamość Rotunda As a Place of Execution of Teachers from Zamość and the Surrounding Area

Abstract

The article presents the Zamość Rotunda, built in 1825–1831, which during World War II, in 1940–1944, became a German POW Transit Camp of the Security Police, subordinated to the Gestapo, a place of martyrdom and execution of the population of the Zamość region, thousands of Poles, Russians and Jews. It focused in particular on showing her place of martyrdom of the Polish intelligentsia in Zamość and the surrounding area: city authorities, clergy, teachers and students, lawyers, city officials, Polish soldiers and their families, representatives of noble families, as well as local peasants.
