Professor Zofia Sękowska (d. 1997), a doctoral student of Professor Maria Grzegorzewska, the founder and long-time Head of the Department of Special Psychopedagogy at Maria Curie-Skłodowska University (UMCS) in Lublin, is one of the most distinguished figures in Polish special education.
The aim of this article is to present her image from a previously unpublished perspective — through the memories of students who participated in the master’s seminar in the special education program at the Faculty of Pedagogy and Psychology at UMCS, specializing in typhlopedagogy, where Professor Sękowska served as supervisor between 1989 and 1991.
This text offers an analysis of written statements characterizing Professor Sękowska as a lecturer, supervisor, organizer of foreign student trips, and, above all, as a remarkable human being. The study provides both factual descriptions and recollections of events related to the Professor, preserved in memory for over thirty years, as well as reflections from her former students on the significance of their relationship with her in shaping their personal and professional lives.
