A Polish Scholar, Researcher, and Promoter of Writers' Biographies and Works

Abstract

The article commemorates the noteworthy figure for Kalisz of Halina Sutarzewicz, a Polish language teacher in Kalisz schools, a lecturer in history of Polish and world literature at the Teacher Training College, but also a researcher and promoter of biographies and works of writers associated with Kalisz and its region. For 20 years, she chaired, initiated by her, a nationwide circle of the Maria Konopnicka Society in Warsaw, inspiring many activities. She was the founder of the Kalisz Chamber of Maria Konopnicka, which operated from 1980 to 1991. In the year 2000, an association bearing her name was established, promoting, amongst other things, the works of writers associated with Kalisz and its region as well as its patron.
While preparing the article, archival sources, press materials, and studies were consulted, as well as materials available on the Internet, using the biographical method as well as source analysis and criticism.
