Chiara Offreduccio and Edith Stein – Two Psychological Paths to Holiness

Selected aspects

Abstract

The publication analyses from the psychological point of view two paths leading a person to holiness - the personal maturity of two women separated by seven centuries: Chiara Offreduccio from Assisi (12th/13th century) and Edith Stein from Wrocław (20th century). The first, of Italian nationality, reached the peak of holiness in the order of the Poor Sisters of St. Damian, the second, of German nationality, in the order of Discalced Carmelite nuns. Their different paths to spiritual perfection are interpreted in accordance with the assumptions of existential psychology (St. Clare) and crisis psychology (St. Teresa Benedicta of the Cross).

Keywords:
