Abstract

This article is dedicated to Marie Skłodowska-Curie, with a focus on the transformative period in her life after the sudden death of her husband, Pierre Curie, in 1906. The author examines how this tragic event reshaped Marie’s personality, her relationship with the world, her self-perception and her approach to scientific work. The article further explores how this identity shift influenced her decision to accept the chair of physics at the Sorbonne and to continue her research into radioactivity. This choice marked a turning point in her life, propelling her towards a groundbreaking scientific career, which culminated in a second Nobel Prize and breaking barriers for women in science.
