Biographies of Perpetrators of Violence in the Context of the Partner Relationship

Psychological Mechanisms of the Violence Relationship

Abstract

On the basis of biographies of three perpetrators of violence held in the Detention Center in Kielce, the psychological mechanisms occurring between the victim and the perpetrator were presented from the perpetrator's perspective. The perpetrators of violence shared their experiences with violence from their early life, as well as their current understanding and definition of the phenomenon of violence in close relationships. The study used a narrative interview with elements of a structured interview, and analysis of documents such as forensic psychiatric opinions by psychiatric experts and community interview reports by probation officers. Thanks to the research materials obtained, which included the perpetrator's approximation of his life story, it was possible to draw a narrative picture of the perpetrator of violence and determine its consistency with the state of affairs facts.  Interesting correlations were obtained related to the functioning of perpetrators of violence during childhood in the family of origin and the determinant of the course of the subjects' functioning and their actions in the present time.
