The article presents Józef Malewski, a simple farmer, who was deeply engaged in patriotic activity in south Warmia. His local patriotism was manifested in his social, economic and educational activities. In the 1930s, he was a member of the Polish Association in Germany and a leader of the Jaroty’s branch of this Association. He supported financially the Polish Bank and was chosen to its management board. He was also engaged in the Agricultural-Trade Association ‘Rolnik’ in Olsztyn. In 1930, he co-organised a Polish primary school in his village – Jaroty. His four children attended that school. Malewski was active in the Polish-Catholic Educational Association in Warmia. When World War II broke out, he was repressed by the German government. He was evicted from his land and his family had to move to Brandenburg. After World War II, he was appreciated as a Pole. He became a village administrator and helped organise the Polish school. He remained socially active. Nine years after his death, the primary school in Jaroty was named after him.
