Early Years, University Education, Early Professional Career – an (Auto)Biographical Reflection

Abstract

The paper discusses the development of the pedagogical thought of Wolfgang Brezinka, a German scholar dealing with education sciences, who died in 2020. The study covers his origin and early years, his studies and early professional (academic) career at the Institute of Comparative Education in Salzburg. Brezinka’s experiences, which were often difficult and frequently surprising, influenced the realistic nature of his concept of pedagogy and education, and contributed to its emphasis on the relationship between theory and practice in education.
