In 1930 Rev. Hieronim Feicht was appointed as a professor of the newly established State Conservatory of Music in Warsaw, where he gave lectures on music theory. Since the very beginning of his didactic activity, he was criticized by the musical environment and those prejudiced against Karol Szymanowski, the rector of the Conservatory. Interpersonal conflicts led to dividing professors of the Conservatory into arguing groups. During the ongoing dispute Feicht was accused of teaching redundant classes; there were also strong suggestions to remove rector Szymanowski from his position. Since Feicht was a member of the Main Council, he tried to defend his own classes as well as Szymanowski’s position. The article is based on the correspondence and archival sources. It discusses Feicht’s role in the establishment of the State Conservatory, his didactic activity and contribution to the foundation of the Faculty of Musicology at this Conservatory.
