Alojza Traugutt was a daughter of Romuald Traugutt, the leader of the January Uprising of 1863. However, there is much more to her than just her famous father. As a teacher and speech therapist, she successfully used modern methods of educational psychology. Her legacy was wholly positive; those who knew her remembered her as highly altruistic, a significant asset to the society. The paper focuses on the key points of Alojza Traugutt’s biography. It takes recourse to previous accounts of her life, including ‘Panna Trau’ (Miss Trau), a biographical story penned by Hanna Muszyńska-Hoffmannowa. It mentions reminiscences from the memoirs of Alojza’s students and co-workers, a testimony to how special a person she was. Alojza Traugutt was also a poet, though her works were either published anonymously or under a pseudonym. This article attempts to analyse selected poems from the weeklies Bluszcz and Biesiada Literacka.
