Ludomir Benedyktowicz (1844–1926) – Armless Artist

Abstract

The article presents a short biographical outline of the painter Ludomir Benedyktowicz (1844–1926). He belonged to the generation of artists in whose life the January Uprising played a significant role. As a result of wounds received during one of the battles, he lost both arms. However, this did not break him down, on the contrary, it motivated him to work hard and not only develop his talent, but also his technique and ability to use a brush, charcoal and a pen. He studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich and at the Jan Matejko School of Composition in Krakow. In Krakow he ran his own painting studio.
